I don't quite know how we got here, but it all started with our label director demanding we do "100% drum n bass". No problem, I thought. As a man with his ear to the ground for fresh new sounds, I could pull together 70 minutes worth of drum n bass. This would be a surefire money maker. "Make sure it's absolutely 100%" he growled. That's when I saw the first gleam of what was to become the madness. I thought about it. What did he mean? A drum n bass track is a drum n bass track. I wasn't about to throw some Motown onto it. Did he mean no gaps between the tracks? Yes that must be it. I could get my good friend DJ Timeshift to mix it. That'll make the boss happy.

It was our best seller of the year. But the boss just saw more dollar signs. Of course I knew a follow up was in order. But I wasn't prepared for the ferocity in which the boss man raved, cigar in mouth, CDs strewn across his desk "101% drum n bass! Get it out before Christmas!". I assumed he'd misspoken. But then I saw it in marketing emails. And that's when I saw the list for the releases planned for the next year. I froze in terror. All our output had been dropped in favour of drum n bass compilations, each one with dizzying new percentages. How could we pull this off? What does it even mean to have 202%?

Well, since then my life has become a black hole, with drum n bass as its ever growing centre. I used to like the genre. Now I don't even know what it is. I don't know who the musicians are or how they keep piling onto these godforsaken albums. Strange things happen over 100%. It's like dividing by a minus number. I don't know who I am or what music is, or who buys these cursed endless collections. I'm ... I'm beginning to doubt my existence. My only hope is that someone might read this compilation description, I fear it may be my only contact with the outside world.
